Cynara cardunculus 'Porto Spineless' | cardoon

This plant will not be available in 2026, however, propagation is planned/underway. Please sign up for the waitlist below to receive updates on availability in future years.

Cardoons are some of the most magnificent architectural and sculptural herbaceous plants. We love their large, silvery, spiky leaves and purple puff flowers.

'Porto Spineless' is an unusually attractive variety with significantly reduced spines. The serrated silver-green leaves are stunning in floral arrangements. They are also edible and taste much like artichokes, though we have yet to try them.

Happiest in very fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Amend soil with well-rotted compost at planting time.
