Wood Ginger is an absolutely charming spring-blooming woodlander. Masses of adorable buttercup-like (the Latin 'ranunculoides' actually translates to 'looks like a buttercup') flowers smother the low mat of ferny foliage from April to May.
Can be grown in full sun, dry shade, or even in a rockery, but it will go summer dormant. Foliage remains throughout summer only if grown in moisture-retentive, humus-rich, fertile soil in part shade.
