Sweet violets are wonderful little plants with a very big fragrance. Essential oils distilled from the leaves have been used to make perfumes since the time of Cleopatra. They are one of the first violets to bloom in early spring, form an excellent groundcover, and naturalize quickly. These long-lived plants also attract pollinators, help prevent erosion, self-seed, and are very easy to grow.

William Robinson recommended that this violet "should be abundantly planted wherever it does not occur in a wild state."

Fun Fact: Rhinebeck was once known as 'The Violet Capital of the World'.
