Giant sacaton is an important grass in its native range (semi-desert habitats in the southwestern US) where it provides habitat for birds and forage for livestock. We grow it in our gardens purely for its beauty. It is a large, architectural grass that never fails to impress. Golden inflorescences light up the winter garden. It is an excellent replacement for large, invasive grasses such as Miscanthus.
