cobweb house leek

Sempervivum arachnoideum

The Latin name translates to 'live forever'. Of course, this cute little hardy succulent does not actually live forever but it seems to as the mother (hen) constantly creates offsets (chicks). These colony forming little evergreens are easy to grow in average, dry, sandy, gravelly, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant, rabbit and deer resistant.

S. arachnoideum is a distinctive, mat-forming species that is remarkable for the cobwebby white hairs that extend from the tips of the succulent leaves.
