Mexican fleabane (Erigeron karvinskianus) is an adorable perennial daisy that blooms non-stop in shade of pink and white from early summer through frost. The mound of dark grey-green foliage is attractive but rarely visible as this plant is so consistently covered in blooms. Best grown as a groundcover or cascading down a stone wall.
Easy to grow in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Drought tolerant once established. Evergreen in mild climates. Deer and rabbit resistant.
Erigeron karvinskianus will happily grow in the cracks of stone walls or between pavers. However, the roots can be a little sensitive to disturbance. If you don't have appropriate planting depth, it is best to plant our 4" pot plants near where you want more plants (rather than directly in a wall) and allowing them to self-sow in the cracks without disturbance.
Note: This sprawling daisy is a favorite plant - sadly, it is not hardy here in the Hudson Valley. We grow it in containers and overwinter in our unheated high tunnel where temperatures remain just warm enough. If you live in a warm location, grow this little daisy in the ground. If you live in a cool location, grow it in containers as an eco-friendly alternative to annuals and overwinter in a protected location.

Plant Sizes
We most commonly use the following pot sizes for perennials:
- 4-inch pot: 3.5" H x 3.5" W x 3.5" D
- 2-quart pot: 6" H x 5.25" W x 5.25" D
- 1-gallon pot: 6.87" H x 8" Dia (this is a true one gallon pot, not the smaller 'trade' one gallon pot used by many nurseries)
Check out our illustrated pot size guide here.
Representative trees & shrubs are photographed in their pots and posted on each plant page.
Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at The Old Dairy. We grow all of our plants outdoors without the use of chemicals, fertilizers, carbon fuels, or peat.
Many of our perennials are grown in the ground and dug upon order (this is especially true for larger sizes). This practice allows us to grow stronger, healthier plants using native soil, and ultimately reduces our impact on the environment.
Our open-pollinated seeds are collected from plants in our mother beds, which have never been treated with chemicals or sprays of any kind.
