river birch

Betula nigra 'Dickinson'

Betula nigra 'Dickinson'

syn. Betula nigra NORTHERN TRIBUTE'

River Birch is the most adaptable and heat tolerant of all the birches; plant breeders continue to improve upon the many available varieties. 'Dickinson' is a newer variety that performs wonderfully in the landscape. It grows in waterlogged or dry soils, resists borers and leaf miner (a big problem with birches!), and is extremely hardy. Beautiful ivory bark exfoliates to reveal a copper-bronze interior. Dark green foliage changes to a clear yellow in fall.

Native to Central and Eastern United States.
