Astrantia major 'Star of Treasure' | masterwort

ARCHIVED PLANT. This page serves as reference only. We are no longer propagating this plant.

Astrantia major is beautiful member of the carrot family with pretty, paper-like flowers that appear in late spring and persist through early autumn. It will self-seed when happy and is capable for forming large drifts in the woodland or shade garden. Prefers moist, rich, friable soil.

'Star of Treasure' has lobed green leaves and reddish-pink flowers.

Fun fact: The word wort at the end of common plant names usually denotes that the plant had some health benefit (though it sometimes means that a plant looks like a part of the human body). Majorwort was used to treat a great many ailments from the common cold to gout.
