Aster turbinellus*
Smooth Violet Prairie Aster is a relatively unusual US Native with narrow leaves and long, arching sprays of lavender flowers which burst open in mid fall and persist through frost. Pairs beautifully with grasses. Grows well in most conditions but will not tolerate full shade.
*Scientists have renamed almost all of the asters. For simplicity sake, we are sticking with the original name, but this plant is now called Symphyotrichum turbinellum.
