CHARACTERISTICS & CARE:
The Acanthus plant was first immortalized in 5 BC by the Greeks who used the imposing, spiky leaves as a motif on temple roof ornaments, wall friezes, and Corinthian column capitals. The motif endures in architecture and decorative arts to this day.
Acanthus mollis is a particularly beautiful plant from Italy with deeply lobed leaves and a plethora of mauve-pink flowers. Easy to grow in any sunny, fertile, reasonably well-drained location. Difficult to remove once established.
